REINZ’s Push for Regulation

05 May 2025

REINZ is committed to ensuring high standards across the property management sector – and that means pushing for regulation, even when the road gets tough.

Last year, despite widespread industry support, the government terminated the bill to regulate residential property managers. But they haven’t let that stop them. In fact, they’ve stepped up their efforts, by keeping the conversation alive with Minister Chris Bishop, his advisers, and HUD (the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development) to get regulation back on the agenda.

At the end of last year, they also met with Minister for Regulation, David Seymour. While he personally appears less convinced of the need for regulation, the meeting was productive. Encouragingly, it seems the ACT Party is unlikely to block a streamlined bill if it’s supported by the coalition government.

Behind the scenes, REINZ continues to work closely with HUD, providing feedback on what they believe should form the minimum framework for regulation. All in all, there are promising signs that a revised bill could be back on the table later this year.

We’ll continue to keep you updated as things develop — it's great to see REINZ leading the way to help lift standards and create a more professional property management sector.
